In 2001, pianist Riaan Bolt and I put our energy into working together to record our unique sound. By now we had been traveling South Africa to any venue I could find and wanted to record the way we sounded exactly! I intended to capture our live performances in an album. It took innovation – but we managed it, and our live performance at ‘Evita se Perron’ in Darling (in 2001) was the result. The album was then released in 2002 and the live sound worked so well that we recorded a version of the Afrikaans folk song ‘Sarie Marais’ for a TV program, ‘Liedjies Wat Ons Ken’ in the same fashion. This song was used by different dancers in their performances to enter a dance competition in 2008 – young artists who did not know each other. It reminded me of how simplicity still is the spice of life!
